My Journey to 100 Days to Amazing-66

Today’s tip for Amazingness:

Make it Work – Looking for Solutions & Positives

Fall is my favorite season, but only by a tiny margin.  I love something about every season, the smells of summer; the breeze and newness of spring, the grays and shadow play of winter, and the crispness and color of fall! Nature makes me feel alive!

I have just returned from a camping trip in the mountains of Virginia and loved almost every moment! The almost, well… it is coooollld!!!  My friends and husband love cold temperatures, but I am a southern girl born and bred and am not accustomed to it and have had to find ways to adapt, to make it work!  It is a little laughable, so you may laugh too when you hear how I coped.  It’s OK, I won’t be offended.

Wait until we go camping in the summer, baby I can sit in the sweltering Vuhginia sun sipping my sweet tea with the best of them, probably while I avert my eyes from my naked husband and friends who have no more clothing to shed. But for now, we’ll talk about Autumn, at least you can always put on more clothes!

Daytime has been great, but when the sun sets, oohhh maaan it is cooold!  In the evenings I sit in front of the fire in a mummy bag marked “comfortable to -20”, ehhh so they say!  And then I  put a blanket on top of me, a hat, mittens, scarf, and coat – hey it works!  My eyes are out and I can still see the fire!

My biggest challenge each year has been going to sleep, it usually dips below freezing at least one night while we are there. I can keep my body warm because I have enough covers to provide warmth for a small town, but my face is the problem.  If I put my face under my covers I feel like I’m going to suffocate, if I leave it out I freeze.  In, out, In, out, In, out…all night long.

This year I had a brilliant plan!!!!  I found these beach towel/awnings sheild things that shield you from the sun.  They have wire rims, kind of like a tent or umbrella and I decided to put it under my sleeping bag with the awning over my head, then I put a blanket over that and made a little tent for my head and made a little burrow. Nice and toasty!! Oh, yeaaa!  It worked!  Except for when I had to get out to go to the bathroom, because if it is freezing outside that seems inevitable!  brrrr- make it quick!

What I learned from this experience is that I could let the cold temperatures rob me of a wonderful time with my husband and friends.  I could say “I’m not going, are you crazy it is COLD!!” or I could sit and whine about how cold I am and in the process make myself and everyone else miserable or I can make it work.  So, I set out to find solutions to make it work.  Last year I bought wool socks, a wool hat, and base layer clothing and this year I made myself a fireside blankie cave and a tent for my head.  I might look like one of the kids from the “Family Circus” cartoon strip, you know the one where the kids is bundled up so much he can’t even put down his arms, but I’m having a good time and that is the point.

One of the other ways we all chose to look at things differently was the fall color.  This year the leaves still had a lot of green and some color mixed in.  Many of the leaves went from green to bare, skipping the awesome color changes.  At first we all were a little disappointed by it, but then we chose to really look at it and see the beauty.  By the end of the week we were all blown away by the amazing colors and beauty.  It is largely a matter of perspective.  We can choose to enjoy or be miserable, we can choose to see disappointment and ugliness or see satisfaction and beauty.  We chose the latter and our trip was an amazing success.

100 Days to Amazing!  You can do amazing things. I believe you can; you believe you can too!

What the 100 Days is about:

I was at the Shaklee Global Conference August 12-16th and we were challenged to 100 Days of Amazing with the question of what could we accomplish in 100 days if we really tried?  I was inspired by the challenge, both as a business builder who wants to grow my business in 100 days and as an individual!  What could I do in 100 days? This blog is a journey, an exercise in learning ways to be the best me, I can be and to help you be the best you, you can be while I’m at it!

Thanks for joining me on this journey!

All photography is by me. Feel free to share, but I ask that you credit the photo to my Lisa Wright Burbach.  To see more of my photos visit my flickr site and Instagram listed to the right.  I also have some photography on Pinterest.
